In my case at least all contacts are there. But some are missing phone numbers, some are missing birthday entries I added using the people app.

@MattVogt: You are right. I could have run the vcardconverter successfully. But running only `devel-su -p` I expected to see the root prompt. I should read the documentation of `devel-su` :-)
